David and his wife apparently just started their own small company after getting disenchanted and leaving some of the larger corporate tour groups. It was a great decision. This is now the best tour in Porto! Combines history with a local flavor, both the neighborhoods and the wine. David is a local and wants you to feel like one too. You see the major sights, but also some lesser traveled places and less corporate wineries. Highly recommended!

Catia is a fabulous ambassador for Portugal. Beyond that, she moves us gently from food to culture to history and regroups us through centuries and decades into today. She was also a weaver of people, making each of us feel welcome and useful. One of my favorite vignette is my husband volunteering to scrape the pastel de nata filling into a container with a pour spout. Cátia quickly grabbed a spatula and started to hand it to him then stopped and looked at the rest of us and said, “Salazar!” Then she explained that under his dictatorship, Salazar exhorted his suffering people to not waste a single thing, so my husband must scrape the bowl clean. My next favorite part was when she made a dish that women cooked as and for women as their men lorded over the grill. You will have to take her class to get the details on it. You will love the stories and the food!

We booked this city tour with the intention of getting to learn more about the city. When we arrived we figured that we were the only ones for that tour providing an even more personal approach. This resulted in one of the best tours we ever had. There was a very nice explanation about the history of Porto using some visual representations. During this trip you get to know more about the city in general but also to the main product, the port wine. The tastings during this tour are very personal and the wines are of high quality. Also, David combined it all to be a very authentic and non-mainstream experience of Porto. During the tour he makes some great recommendations for places to eat or grab a drink. We are very happy that we booked this tour and recommend it to everyone.

This was an incredible experience bringing both Portugal history and traditional Portuguese food-culture together. We found Catia via TripAdvisor and we’re drawn to the experience based on the reviews. This exceeded our expectations. To start we spent the afternoon walking the local market, where we procured many of the ingredients that we used to prepare our meal. While there, Catia wove in history of the market, Portuguese culture and unique foods. She was clearly well liked by the vendors. We ventured back to a cool renovated apartment in the city center that she had a hand in designing the interior. We loved not only the food, but also learning about Catia’s relationship with the traditional dishes. A truly unique way to interact with Portuguese food. We highly, highly recommend this experience. Thank you Catia for an amazing evening. We will be back!

David is a wonderful guide. The fact that C&D Tours keeps groups on the smaller size helps you walk through the city as friends rather than a big noticeable crowd like other big tours. David knows SO MUCH history about the city and buildings you see. He's passionate about sharing and this tour is a good way to get your bearings in the city for the first time as you walk through. Don't worry, you still get plenty of wine at the end!

We had such a great time with Catia. Despite bad weather that made us a bit late, she was welcoming, charming, and also very knowledgeable. Her cooking class venue was beautiful. We enjoyed everything we made and, after two days home, have already replicated one of the dishes. (And, when I texted her a question about preparation, she responded in minutes!) his is a highly recommended experience for anyone who likes food and cooking!
